(CHESTERFIELD):  The Young Friends of the Missouri Botanical Garden are bringing their autumn social event to the Sophia M. Sachs Butterfly House! Mix and mingle with old friends or meet new ones at the third annual Fest-of-Ale, Friday, Oct. 15 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Butterfly House, 15193 Olive Blvd. at Faust Park in Chesterfield. Cost is $30 per person ($15 for Garden members) and advance reservations are required; call (314) 577-9570 or visit www.mobot.org/membership.
Throughout the month of October, the Butterfly House will be bursting at the seams with nearly 2,000 owl butterflies inside its 8,000-square-foot Tropical Conservatory. Owl butterflies are incredibly active at dusk, swooping and zooming through the conservatory on the prowl for food and mates. Witness their flight before heading outside to nosh on assorted fall appetizers and fresh beer from local breweries including Augusta Brewery, Six Row Brewery, Square One Brewery and the Stable. Enjoy live music under the stars by the Pennsylvania Slim Blues Band, covering everything from the blues, R&B and soul to jump swing and rock-and-roll.
Young Friends is a program for professionals in their twenties and thirties which aims to advance the Missouri Botanical Garden’s mission “to discover and share knowledge about plants and their environment, in order to preserve and enrich life.” For more information on the organization, visit www.mobot.org/membership.
