SCRA’s 2010 Saint Charles Plein Air Competition – which takes place between September 21 and October 1, 2010 in and around the Main Street and Frenchtown Historic Districts in St. Charles – encourages artists to paint “plein air”, which is French for “in the open air”. Both the Plein Air Competition and Quick Paints are open to any artist 18 years or older interested in painting and/or drawing within the designated boundaries in Saint Charles, and the only stipulation is that participating artists must paint or draw “en plein air”.
Entry Fees for Quick Paints and the actual Saint Charles Plein Air Competition are $30 per artist, which can be paid in advance or at any time during the event. Entry Forms and additional details regarding the Competition entry process are available online at www.saintcharlesriverfrontarts.com.
The Artist’s Reception, Show and Sale will take place from 5:00 until 9:00 pm on Friday evening, October 1, 2010 at the Foundry Art Centre. Participating artists are invited to display and sell any works created of Saint Charles during the Competition’s timeframe. There will be at least $3,000 in cash prizes and merchandise awarded to participating artists, as well as the announcement of the “Best of Show” and “Artists’ Choice” recognition awards.
The annual Saint Charles Plein Air Competition – started in 2008 by the non-profit arts organization Saint Charles Riverfront Arts – is one of the primary events to support the organization’s mission of growing a dynamic Art District in and around Main Street, in historic St. Charles, Missouri. Proceeds from the entire event will benefit Saint Charles Riverfront Arts’ efforts to promote visual and performing arts throughout the St. Charles community.
Merideth adds, “We invite the community to come out and watch the artists create their works, both at the Quick Paints and during the Plein Air Competition. This is a very family friendly event, and we encourage the public, particularly children, to talk to the artists as they create.”
